It’s no secret that the bruises of the pandemic have impacted academic learning. Many students may need scaffolding in reading, math, history, etc.— training wheels to get back in gear again.
I’ve tutored middle and high school students for the last decade — always with the goal of making each student’s experience as enjoyable as it is rewarding. I specialize in English, history (US and world), math (through Algebra II), and standardized tests, including AP exams, the SSAT, ISEE, ACT, and SAT. Recognizing each student as a unique individual, I tailor my approach to academic level, availability, focus, and interests.
Having worked in book publishing for over twenty years, as well as having authored a book of my own, I have first-hand experience with overcoming the barriers to writing. Whether fear of performance, trouble organizing thoughts, or a lack of knowledge about grammar and cohesion, I find it incredibly rewarding to help students address each challenge and become stronger, more confident writers.
Over the years, I’ve come up with impactful examples that quickly show students why grammar is important, how to remember the rules, organize ideas, improve cohesion, and craft an effective thesis. I also show them a few tricks that instantly improve any essay. Whether a student is working on creative, personal, or academic essays, I understand how critical it is to master the skill of effective writing.
With flexible hours and fees, I work with students in person at my New York City office (near Lincoln Center) or via Zoom.
