Best Grammar Resources
  • Grammar by Diagram by Cindy Vito — This is hands down my favorite grammar book. Vito teaches grammar through sentence diagrams, which is fun and helpful because she makes it easy to understand the why behind grammar rules. Beyond sentence diagrams, Vito teaches punctuation rules and includes lots and lots of practice. Useful exercises for the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, and AP Lang.
  • A Writer’s Reference with Exercises by Diana Hacker and Nancy Sommers — Extremely helpful grammar bible. In my opinion, every student should have this book handy on a shelf for reference. She explains every question you might have about grammar and writing academic papers.
  • Purdue Owl Grammar Exercises — Lots and lots of grammar exercises, including comma practice, colons, semicolons, dashes, and quotation marks. The site also includes revision practice, such as eliminating wordiness and summarizing text. Useful exercises for the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, and AP Lang.
  • IXL — $15.95 per month subscription includes math and grammar. Excellent, abundant practice. Automaticity takes lots of practice. If you make punctuation errors, IXL will take you to mastery.
