As a Publishing Exec, I applaud your candor. ...
Selling directly to the consumer. We’d wanted to try it with bundles first. Topspin is doing it successfully with music. We never got there due to complications — but it was on the horizon. I’d still like to test that out. (and thank you!) Ask me anything

My Impressions of SXSW 2010- Think Chatroulette...
Ok, first of all, can I just say, I think that was my all time favorite conference. Ever. Yes, I know it was overwhelmingly huge, and people are saying this and that cranky thing about it (I’m ignoring) – but to me, it was thousands of super interesting, innovative people in every nook and cranny and there was absolutely no way to go wrong if you’re open to meeting new people. I...

Any chance you're looking for an editorial assistant, or other entry-level position? :) My resume: http://bit.ly/9dMdqB -@michaelrknepper

Are You The Peanut Butter?
I heard Brad Inman give a speech at O’Reilly’s Tools of Change conference, and he said trying to get stuff done in book publishing is like trying to swim through a jar of peanut butter. I nearly stood up and screamed “EXACTLY!” I have had the good fortune to work with a lot of entrepreneurs and tech people, and they are doing circles around my publishing colleagues because they don’t put up...

I Have A Good Friend Who's a Twitterer And He Says...
From Dave Eggers Interview in The Guardian: At home, where he writes, he no longer has internet access. A four-month stint with wi-fi proved “deadly” for his productivity and having no access at all ensures that he is not tempted to “look at Kajagoogoo videos and old ads for Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum” on YouTube. “Writing is a deep-sea dive. You need hours just to get into it: down, down, down....

WatchWatch
I’ve seen this video of Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor at least 10 times.  Maybe more.  It moves me every time I see it. If you’re watching for the first time, it starts to get intense at about 6:30….and by 13 mins in you won’t believe what a profound and awesome woman she is. When I think about the kind of public speaker I’d like to be, SHE IS IT.  Heart and soul in spades.

Free Lunch, Anyone?
On the first day of 9th grade, my son came home to tell me about his Global class. The teacher had held up a dollar bill and asked the kids what it was. One said “money,” another said “a dollar,” etc. The teacher went on to explain that it was in fact just a piece of paper, and that the faith people put in that paper is what gives it value. That story blew my son away (and me too, in fact). ...

Continuations: More Thoughts on EBook Pricing →
The New York Times had a piece yesterday on ebook pricing, which I have written about before. Interestingly, the piece simply states and doesn’t question that an ebook retailer such as Apple should be entitled to a 30% fee. What will Apple provide? There would seem to be four separate…
